Editorial ruling

A retained copy from the correspondence file.

Retain all three documents. Mark the two summaries as dependent accounts. Do not delete the circular citations: the loop is itself useful evidence of how the same claim acquired the appearance of several witnesses.

The receiving register is not complete. It identifies a consignment and a custodian, not the ultimate owner. That omission is the reason the correspondence continues. It is also the reason this office has stopped using the word “definitive” in headings.

Notebook question: Which register is the first-hand source rather than a circular citation?
